Connecting to the phone system
In CTILink select: to display a
menu list of the phone systems available. (if the menu item is disabled, select
to close an already selected phone system).

Choose the service which meets your needs:
- You have a modem or are connected to a PBX such as a
Nortel, NEC, Toshiba, Cisco or Siemens which supports TAPI
- Your PBX is manufactured by Avaya and supports
CenterVu or your PBX supports CSTA or TSAPI
- Your PBX is manufactured by Mitel
Installing TAPI in windows Windows 95, 98, ME or NT
(TAPI is always installed in Windows 2000 and later):
To see if TAPI is already installed, click
in the windows task bar and look for the Telephony icon in
the Control Panel dialog window. If it is
not there do the following:
- In Control Panel click the icon.
- Select the tab and click on
.
- Click and check .
- Click .
Setting up TAPI in Windows 95, 98, ME and NT:
- In Control Panel, double click on the Telephony icon.
- In the Dialing Properties dialog select the Telephony
Drivers tab.
- The name of the telephony driver for the modem or PBX
should be displayed. If it is not, click to display the Add Driver dialog.
Select the correct driver from the list displayed or select Unlisted or
Updated Driver and click again. (If a modem is being used for the
telephone system and telephony driver software is not available, select
Unimodem Service Provider.)
- Select to configure the telephony driver.
Setting up TAPI in Windows 2000 or Windows XP:
- In Control Panel click .
- Select the Advanced tab and if the desired Telephony Provider is not
displayed, click . Modem users that do not have TAPI software
specific for their modem can use unimodem.
Testing TAPI:
For Windows 95, 98, ME and NT:
- Click from the Windows task bar to display the Phone Dialer applet.
- Click to display the Connect Using
dialog.
- In the Line drop down list select the telephony
driver you wish to use. (If the correct telephony driver (TSP) could not be found ask your PBX dealer to install the correct TSP software.)
- In the Address drop down list select the address to use if there is more
than one.
- Uncheck Use Phone Dialer to handle voice call requests from other
programs. Click to dismiss the dialog box
- Enter a number to dial to be sure the system is
working.
For Windows 2000:
- Click from the Windows task bar to display the Phone Dialer applet.
- Click .
- In the "Line Used For" group box, select the "Phone
Calls" drop-down list and select the desired telephony driver. (If the correct telephony driver (TSP) could not be found ask
your PBX dealer to install the correct TSP software.)
- Click to dismiss the dialog box.
- Click the speed button and enter a number to dial to be sure the
system is working.
For Windows XP:
- Click from the Windows task bar to display the Phone Dialer applet.
- Click .
- In the "Line Used For" group box, select the "Phone Calls" drop-down list
and select the desired telephony driver. (If the correct telephony driver
(TSP) could not be found ask your PBX dealer to install the correct TSP
software.)
- Click to dismiss the dialog box.
- Click the speed button and enter a
number to dial to be sure the system is working.
- Click from
CTILink to display the Properties Wizard dialog.
- Select and configure the desired phone devices
.
- Checking causes CTILink to use its own
dialing properties instead
of the default provided by TAPI. If you are using Windows 98, ME or 2000 this
option should remain unchecked because the same functionality is provided by
both. In Windows 95 and Windows NT the dialing properties provided by TAPI do
not include provisions for establishing rules about how specific numbers
should be dialed as local or long distance numbers and if these features are
needed, this option should be checked.
- In some cases it may not be desirable to have a dialed number formatted,
either because the number being dialed is already formatted or because the way
CTILink formats the number is not correct for the location you are in. To
prevent formatting of dialed numbers check . If
the phone system is a PBX it may be necessary to enter an access code to reach
an outside line, enter that number in the edit box and
then enter the number of digits for a number that is not an outside call.
- Check to have
CTILink automatically start the phone service each time it runs. If left
unchecked, on start up CTILink will display the Properties Wizard to allow the user to select a line.
- Check to open the phone service when
finished with the Properties Wizard.
- Click .

Setup extensions that are available for monitoring by clicking . In the Setup Extensions dialog, list all the extensions
that are to be monitored. If this is a network installation, include all
extensions to be monitored by CTILink on all connected workstations. Some
versions of TSAPI will automatically supply the list of extensions. To see if
your version does, follow the instructions in Configuring TSAPI. When the Phone
Devices page is displayed, the list of extensions will appear.
Configuring TSAPI:
- Click from CTILink to display the Properties Wizard dialog.
- In the Login ID edit box enter the TSAPI login
identifier which can be obtained from the network administrator. (The TSAPI
login is not the same as the network login.)
- In the Password edit box enter the TSAPI password. (The
TSAPI password is not the same as the network password.)
- If there is more than one TSAPI Server, select the one you wish to connect
to and then click .
- Select and configure the desired phone
devices. If no devices, click cancel
and then follow the instructions for Setting up extensions.
